1. Learn key design principles.

Graphic design is a visual communication tool that combines the use of graphics, typography, color, and illustration to communicate a message.

And while there are endless ways to communicate a message (that’s where the creative part comes into play), there are key principles that every graphic designer must follow:

• Hierarchy
• Alignment
• Contrast
• Space
• Color
• Proximity
• Repetition
• Balance

These fundamental concepts ensure that a design is cohesive, impactful, and clear.

In addition to these principles, there are other elements that come into play, such as typography and color theory.

The former relates to the way in which your copy (i.e. text) is arranged while the former refers to how people perceive color and how it impacts messaging.

Once you understand these concepts, you can then dive a little deeper. More on that in the next section.

2. Find a course.

Contrary to popular belief, having an eye for design isn’t an innate trait – it’s a learned skill.

Once you have a broad overview of graphic design, it’s time to dive in with an in-depth course.

A course will teach you about the history of graphic design, the various subdivisions within the discipline, the psychology behind design principles, and the tools you’ll need.

3. Master design programs.

It’s hard to think of graphic design without immediately thinking of the tools they use.

So much of graphic design work relies on the use of tools like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Sketch.

These are all powerful software that allow you to create everything from logos and illustrations to website designs.

While they aren’t free to use, consider them investments in your career, as you will likely use them for every project you take on.

4. Network with fellow designers.

In addition to the knowledge you’ll gain from your courses, it’s important to speak with designers who are currently working in the field.

This will help you get a 360-view of what it’s like working as a graphic designer and what it takes to succeed in your role.

Start on social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn. You’ll find plenty of design communities and groups that share information and opportunities.

You can also use sites like MeetUp to find designers in your area who are interested in meeting up as well as Eventbrite to find fun events you can join.

Networking across is as important as networking up. Make sure you lean on your community for support and advice as you develop your skills as a graphic designer.

5. Practice, then practice some more.

Now that you’ve learned everything you need to know, it’s time to put that knowledge into action.

When learning anything new, practicing is key. It’s not enough for you to take in the knowledge, you have to use it and learn how it works in real time.

So, now that you understand design principles and have learned from the experts, it’s time for you to gain your own experience. You can start by searching for graphic design exercises online.

For instance, Type Connection and KernType allow you to test your typography skills. You can also use sites like Sharpen to find design prompts to work on. They have prompts in various categories, from branding to marketing and user experience (UX).

Once you feel confident in your ability, consider taking on a design project of your own. It could be a passion project you give yourself or one you seek out.

This will help you get real-world experience in what it takes to start a project from start to finish and all of the non-design implications you must consider.

To Fix Sound Problem in Windows 7 , please try these two simple methods:

Method 1 : Please go to Control Panel and open ‘Device Manager’ – Locate “Sound, Video and Game Controller’ – Right click on your device’s sound card and click on ‘Update driver software…” – install the updates if available – if not, please right click on your sound card and then click ‘Uninstall’ – close all windows and restart your computer – After restart, Windows will automatically install the uninstalled drivers. Method 2: Click on start menu – search for ‘Services’ – Open ‘Services’ and locate ‘ Windows Audio’ – right click on it and open ‘Properties’ – click on fourth tab ‘Dependencies’ and please note down the three services written there. ভূমিকম্প শব্দটার সাথে আমরা সবাই পরিচিত। বলতে গেলে বেশ ভয়ানক ভাবেই পরিচিত।   এইতো  কিছু দিন আগেই বাংলাদেশে ৫.৪ মাত্রার ভূমিকম্প হয়ে গেলো।  আমরা সবাই দেখে আসছি ভূমিকম্প হয়। কিন্তু কেন হয় তা কি আমরা জানি?  বা রিখটার স্কেলের কত মাত্রাতে আসলে কি বুঝায়?  আমরা অধিকাংশই জানি না। তাহলে চলুন আজ জেনে নেয়া যাক ভূমিকম্প হওয়ার পেছনে কারণ, রিখটার স্কেলের পরিমাপ  এবং আরো কিছু তথ্য।

১৯১২ সালে জার্মান বিজ্ঞানী আলফ্রেড ওয়েগনার  বিভিন্ন গবেষণা  করে একটি  তত্ত্ব প্রকাশ করেন। তত্ত্বটির নাম হল “কন্টিনেন্টাল ড্রিফট” । এ তত্ত্ব অনুসারে , এক সময় পৃথিবীর মহাদেশ গুলো একসাথে ছিলো। কিন্তু পরে তা বিভক্ত হয়ে একে অপর থেকে দূরে সরে গেছে। আমদের পৃথিবীর ভূ পৃষ্ঠ অনেক গুলো খন্ড বা  প্লেটে বিভক্ত। এই প্লেট গুলোকে বলা হয় “টেকটনিক প্লেট”।  এই প্লেট গুলো একে অপরের সাথে পাশাপাশি অবস্থান করে। কিন্তু এরা স্থির নয়। এরা একে অপরের সাপেক্ষে কখনো কাছাকাছি আসে। কখনো কখনো দূরে সরে যায় আবার কখনো কখনো নিজেদের মাঝে সংঘর্ষ হয়। বিপুল পরিমাণে শক্তি বহন করা দুটি টেকটনিক প্লেট যখন একে অপরের সাথে ধাক্কা খায় তখন এ শক্তি বাইরে নির্গত হয় যা পৃথিবীর উপরিভাগকে কাঁপিয়ে দেয়। কম্পন আকারে এ শক্তি মাটিতে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। তখনি ভূমিকম্প হয়।

যে খানে টেকটনিক প্লেটের সংযোগস্থল  আছে  সেখানটাকে বলা হয়ে থাকে “ফল্ট লাইন”। আর এ ফল্ট লাইনেই ভূমিকম্প বেশি হয়।  ফল্ট লাইনের বিচ্যুতির ফলে যে শক্তি নির্গত হয় তা সিসমিক তরঙ্গ রূপে মাটির ভেতর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হয়ে সব দিকে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে । যে কেন্দ্রে ভূমিকম্প উৎপন্ন হয় তাকে হাইপোসেন্টার (Hypocenter)  বলে । আর তার ঠিক উপরে ভূপৃষ্ঠে অবস্থিত বিন্দুটিকে বলা হয় এপিসেন্টার (Epicenter).   উৎপত্তিস্থলে ভূমিকম্পের তীব্রতা থাকে সবচেয়ে বেশি।

ভূমিকম্প যখন সৃষ্টি হয় তখন তিন ধরণের তরঙ্গ বা ওয়েভের সৃষ্টি হয়। ভূমিকম্পের উৎপত্তিস্থলে যে ওয়েভ সৃষ্টি হয় তাকে বলা হয় প্রাইমারি ওয়েভ বা P wave. এটি সবচেয়ে দ্রুত গতিতে আশে পাশে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। এর পর দ্বিতীয় একটি ওয়েভের সৃষ্টি হয় যাকে বলে সেকেন্ডারি ওয়েভ বা   S wave.  তৃতীয় ওয়েভটির নাম হল সার্ফেস ওয়েভ। এই সার্ফেস ওয়েভটিই ভূপৃষ্ঠে এসে আঘাত হানে। আর তখনি আমরা ভূমিকম্প অনুভব করতে পারি।

সারা পৃথিবীতে বছরে প্রায় ছয় হাজার ভূমিকম্প হয়। এর বেশির ভাগের পেছনেই দায়ী হয় ফল্ট লাইনের এদিক সেদিক হওয়া। তবে এটি ছাড়াও আরো কিছু কারণ আছে।  যেমন আগ্নেয়গিরির বিস্ফোরণের ফলে ভূমিকম্প হয়ে পারে।এ ছাড়াও  নিউক্লীয় বোমার বিস্ফোরণের ফলেও ভূমিকম্প হতে পারে।

রিখটার স্কেল কি এবং এর মাত্রা গুলো দিয়ে কি বোঝায়?

আমরা জানি রিখটার স্কেল দিয়ে ভূমিকম্পের মাত্রা ও ক্ষয় ক্ষতির  পরিমাপ হিসাব  করা যায়।  এটি একটি ১০-ভিত্তির লগারিদমীয় পরিমাপ। অর্থাৎ এই পরিমাপে যেকোনো সংখ্যার ভূমিকম্প পূর্ববর্তী সংখ্যার চাইতে ১০ গুন শক্তিশালী। যেমন, ৩ মাত্রার ভূমিকম্পের চেয়ে ৪ মাত্রা ভূমিকম্প ১০ গুন বেশি শক্তিশালী। তো চলুন দেখে নিই কোন মাত্রায় কি বোঝায় এবং ক্ষতির পরিমাণ কেমন হয় ?

০-১.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে ভূমিকম্প এলে শুধুমাত্র সিজমোগ্রাফ থেকেই তা জানা যায়৷

২-২.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে, ভূমিকম্প হলে হালকা কম্পন অনুভূত হয়৷

৩-৩.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে, ভূমিকম্প এলে, কোনও ট্রাক বা লরি নিকট দিয়ে গেলে যেমন লাগে এক্ষেত্রেও তেমনই অনুভূত হয়৷

৪-৪.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে ভূমিকম্পে দরজা-জানলা ভাঙতে পারে বা দেওয়ালে টাঙানো ফ্রেম পড়ে যেতে পারে৷

৫-৫.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে ভূমিকম্প এলে বাড়ির আসবাব পত্রে ঝাঁকুনি শুরু হতে পারে৷

৬-৬.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে ভূমিকম্প এলে বাড়ির ওপরের তলাগুলি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হতে পারে৷

৭-৭.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে ভূমিকম্প এলে বাড়ি ভেঙে পড়তে পারে৷ ভূ-গর্ভেও ভয়ঙ্কর ফাটল হতে পারে৷

৮-৮.৯ রিখটার স্কেলে ভূমিকম্প হলে বড় বড় বাড়িসহ বড় ব্রিজ বা সেতুও ভেঙে পড়ে যেতে পারে৷

৯ বা তার বেশি কম্পন হলে ভয়ঙ্কর ক্ষয়ক্ষতি হয়৷ সমুদ্র কাছে থাকলে সুনামিও হতে পারে৷

আশা করি এখন থেকে আমরা ভূমিকম্পের মাত্রা শুনে এর সম্পর্কে ভালো একটা ধারণা পেতে পারবো।

বাংলাদেশে ভূমিকম্পের অবস্থা:
আমাদের বাংলাদেশ ” ভারতীয় , ইউরশিয় এবং ,মায়ানমার” টেকটনিক প্লেটের মাঝে আবদ্ধ। এই প্লেট সমূহের নড়াচড়ার  কারণে প্রায়ই  দেশে ভূমিকম্প অনুভূত হয়। বিভিন্ন ভূতাত্ত্বিকগণ বাংলাদেশের মাঝে চারটি ফল্ট লাইন চিহ্নিত করেছেন। সেগুলো হলঃ

১। ডাউকি ফল্ট, যা ভূমির উপরে সিলেট-জৈন্তাপুর/ মেঘালয় বর্ডারে বাংলাদেশের পূর্ব থেকে পশ্চিম বরাবর এবং মাটির গহ্বরে শিলং প্লাটু বরাবর ৩০০ কিমি ধরে চলে গেছে।

২।  ১৫০ কিমি দীর্ঘ মধুপুর ফল্ট , যা  উত্তর থেকে দক্ষিণে মধুপুর  থেকে যমুনায় নদী পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত।

৩।  আসাম সিলেট ফল্ট যা উত্তর পূর্ব থেকে দক্ষিণ পশ্চিমে অবস্থান করছে ।

৪।  চিটাগাং মিয়ানমার প্লেট বাউন্ডারি যা চট্টগ্রাম এবং মিয়ানমারের সমুদ্রতট ধরে ৮০০ কিমি উত্তর দক্ষিণে অবস্থান  করছে।

এই ফল্টলাইনের উপস্থিতি বাংলাদেশে  ভূমিকম্প হওয়ার জন্য দায়ী। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে বাংলাদেশ বিশ্বের দ্বিতীয় ভূমিকম্প প্রবণ অঞ্চলে মাঝে পড়ে গিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের নিচ দিয়ে টেকটনিক প্লেটের সংযোগস্থল গিয়েছে। এই প্লেটের নড়াচড়ার কারণে বাংলাদেশ প্রতি এক হাজার বছরে তিন থেকে পনের মিটার করে সংকুচিত হচ্ছে। যার ফলে ভূ অভ্যন্তরে বিশাল পরিমাণ শক্তি জমা হচ্ছে। যার কারণে  জমে থাকা এ শক্তি যে কোনো সময় বিশাল বড় ভূমিকম্প আকারে বেড়িয়ে আসতে পারে বলে বিশেষজ্ঞরা আশঙ্কা করছেন।

ভূমিকম্পের সময় করণীয়:

ভূমিকম্পের পূর্বাভাস দেয়ার কোনো প্রযুক্তি এখন পর্যন্ত সেভাবে আলোর মুখ দেখেনি বলে সচেতনতাই আমাদের এক মাত্র সমাধান। যে কথাটি সবার আগে প্রয়োজন সেটা হল তাড়াহুড়া করতে গিয়ে বিপদে পড়া বা অন্যকে বিপদে ফেলা যাবে না। অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই দেখা যায় যে , ভূমিকম্প হয়েছে একেবারেই মৃদু কিন্তু মানুষ আতংকিত হয় দ্রুত বিল্ডিং থেকে বের হতে গিয়ে দুর্ঘটনা ঘটিয়ে ফেলেছে। এমনটা যাতে না হয় সে দিকে খেয়াল রাখতে হবে। এছাড়াও অন্যান্য যে করণীয় কাজ গুলো হয় তা নিম্নরূপ:

১। ভূকম্পন অনুভূত হওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বাসার বিদ্যুৎ ও গ্যাসলাইন বন্ধ করে ফেলুন।

২। বাসা থেকে বের হয়ে পড়ুন। আর সম্ভব না হলে তখনই মজবুত টেবিল, খাটের নীচে কিংবা পিলারের সঙ্গে অবস্থান করুন।হাঁটু ও হাতের ওপর ভর দিয়ে মেঝেতে শুয়ে পড়ুন।   মাথা রক্ষার জন্য বালিশ হাতের কাছে রাখতে পারেন।

৩। বের হওয়ার সময় লিফট ব্যবহার না করাই ভালো। বিদ্যুৎ চলে যেতে পারে। তখন ঘটতে পারে দুর্ঘটনা।

৪। বিভিন্ন রকমের পতনশীল ভারি আসবাব, ছবির ফ্রেম, আয়না, জানালা থেকে দূরে থাকুন।

৫।  আগুন জ্বালাবেন না। গ্যাস লাইন লিক করে থাকলে তা থেকে  আগ্নিকান্ড হতে  পারে।

৬। গাড়িতে থাকলে যথাসম্ভব নিরাপদ স্থানে থাকুন। আশপাশে বড় ভবন নেই এমন জায়গায় গাড়ি পার্ক করতে পারেন। কখনো সেতুর ওপর গাড়ি থামাবেন না।

৭। টাকা বা অলঙ্কারের মতো কোনো কিছু সঙ্গে নেওয়ার জন্য অযথা সময় নষ্ট করবেন না।

৮।  বিল্ডিং কোড মেনে বিল্ডিং নির্মাণ করুন।

পরিশেষে বলা যায় ভূমিকম্পকে মোকাবেলা করার মত প্রযুক্তি এখনো আমাদের  হাতে নেই । কিন্তু আমরা যদি নিয়ম মেনে আমাদের নগর গড়ে তুলি এবং সতর্কতামূলক  এসব নির্দেশিকা মেনে চলি তাহলে  ক্ষতির হাত থেকে  অনেকটাই রক্ষা করতে পারবো নিজেদের।
