Several years ago, for about a year, I cancelled Netflix / Hulu services and stayed home most nights. I only went out one day a week and only after I have completed the amount of study I had promised myself to do for that week. I studied programming from online courses and from books. My social life suffered, but I would not stop until I become a software engineer.

After about a year of study and doing free work for people, I started interviewing at many tech companies. I failed around 10 interviews. I was about to give up until one company gave me a chance. I’ve been a software engineer ever since.

So it’s basically just being persistent and working hard. Don’t give up.
