There are two ways you can remove malware from your browser; the free way and the pain-free way (paid).

The free way is going to require you to manually do all the work and won’t prevent future infections and the pain-free way (paid) is going to automatically do all the work for you and will help prevent any further infections.

Both options work but it’s all about which one you want to use.

Let’s start with the pain-free method.

Install browser protection software

Browser protection is great at removing pre-existing malware and for adding another layer of security to prevent future malware infections.

The Chrome extension I use and I recommend is Guardio.

Guardio is an anti-malware extension that blocks harmful sites, extensions, and push notifications that try to install malware on your computer.

• Scanning every site, page, and service you visit to make sure you don’t enter websites infected with malware.
• Detecting and removing malicious extensions that risk your personal information, install adware, or change your browser settings.
• Blocking intrusive notifications that invade your browser and prevent you from doing anything.
• Detecting when your personal information is leaked online. For example, when there is a data breach on one of the services or platforms you use and your email and password were compromised.
• Detecting search hijacking attempts, block them, and direct your browsing to your preferred search engine.

To get started with Guardio all you have to do is install Guardio on your browser, create an account with your email address and password or use Google or Facebook, and then start your free scan. That’s it.

Guardio will scan for malware on your browser and neutralize it. It’s that simple.

Now, let’s talk about the free way.

Reset your browser settings

If the problem you are having is because malware changed your browser settings (sometimes malware changes your browser settings to redirect your searches to a different search engine, use affiliate links, show you ads, and more), then resetting your browser will help remove malware.

Just know that if you are using a Google account and all your data’s been synced up, this method won’t work because it’s just going to automatically download everything again the next time you log into your account.

You can find this option under your advanced settings, it says, “Reset settings”.
