There are a number of reasons why you might want to block a website:

- Block websites that are reducing your employees’ productivity and chewing data or slowing the internet speed collectively
Whatever your reason, it’s something that can be done quite simply. In this guide, we’ll show you how to block a website on:
- Chrome
- Chrome mobile for Android devices
- Firefox
How to block a website on Chrome
To block a website on Chrome, you first need to go to Google add-ons to add an extension:
- In your Chrome browser, type in ‘block site extension’.
- Choose the link that says ‘Block Site – Website Blocker for Chrome™’.
- Click the blue box ‘Add to Chrome’.
- You’ll see a pop-window and you should click ‘Add extension’.
- It will then give you a number of options in the following screens, which you can decide whether to accept or skip. Top tip: You don’t need to upgrade or pay to use it and can click ‘skip’ this step when the screen appears.
- The following page will then appear and you can enter the website/s you wish to block.
How to block a website on Chrome mobile for Android
To block a website on Chrome mobile using an Android device, follow these steps:
- Open the ‘Google Play Store’ on your phone.
- Search for ‘Blocksite Chrome’. The logo will look like a little red shield. Click ‘INSTALL’.
- Once the app has finished installing, click ‘open’.
- You’ll then need to accept the Ts & Cs by clicking ‘Accept’.
- Next, you’ll have to click ‘Permit Access’. This will open up the accessibility screen for apps on your phone. Click on ‘BlockSite’ and swipe the button right. You’ll receive a new pop-up notice and you should click ‘Accept’.
- The app will then ask if you want to continue with a number of different login options i.e. your email. You can choose one or ignore this step by closing the window and the app will still work.
- On the next screen, it will ask if you want to upgrade. You don’t need to do this, or pay, unless you want to and think you need it. Remember, you can always upgrade later. Close this screen and you’ll be able to block websites.
- Click the green circle with a plus symbol and away you go!
How to block a website on Firefox
To block a website on Firefox, follow these steps:

- Open your Firefox browser
- Click on the three lines in the top-right corner
- Select ‘Add-ons’, which will bring up a new page
- In the search bar, type ‘block site’
- This will bring up a number of site blocking add-ons you can choose from
- We will choose the first one, ‘Block Site’, for this example, because it has the highest star rating from users
- Whichever you want to add, simply click on the name and then click ‘Add to Firefox’
- It will give you a pop-up box about permissions and you need to click ‘Add’ to continue
- You will notice a new shortcut icon has been added in the top-right corner and you can start blocking websites or come back to it anytime you’re ready
